Silly Stories Stave-off Memory Loss

I always thought everyone used memory techniques to remember things.  Not so! This simple little memory trick to remember a list of things works like magic, that is, if you have a crazy brain like mine.

This is how it works. Each number has a sound alike “peg” word.

one is bun
two is shoe
three is tree
four is door
five is hive
six is sticks
seven is heaven
eight is gate
nine is dine
ten is hen.

Let’s say you want to go to the store and buy the following things, toothpaste, oranges, bacon, eggs, Kleenex, lettuce, notebook, dog food, chili, and hamburger.  I know you’re saying, “Just make a list.” Well, maybe you’re driving and can’t write.

It’s really easy. One is bun, so you visualize this big hot dog bun filled with gooey, striped toothpaste, dripping out of it. You won’t forget that!  Two is shoe and see in your mind a pair of orange colored shoes with orange slices inside.  Three is tree and this can be a bacon tree – lots of strips of bacon hanging down, waving in the wind.  You’ve got to visualize all of this!  You get the hang of it, just keep going.  The sillier the picture, the easier it will be to recall!  And it works! Try it out and let me know your results.
